Kids Skates
Childhood and skateboarding go together like… well… kids’ skates! The memories that children form while skating last a lifetime. Plus, they get outdoors being active with fresh air and exercise! Something there is all too little of now for kids. Kid’s skates encourage children to spend time out in their community, make friends, and be involved in healthy activities. But skateboards require some thought, from the purchasing process to the safety gear. So, here are some tips to help you decide what kids’ skates and accessories are best for your family.
Cheap kids’ skates are no deal
You don’t need to break the bank on your kids’ skates, but avoid the cheapest toy models of skateboards. The poor construction makes them harder to ride, and the lack of durability makes it more likely something goes wrong. Plastic trucks, poorly manufactured bearings and hard wheels make learning to skate more difficult. The lack of control demotivates new riders makes injuries more likely, and maintaining speeds becomes more difficult.
So, choose a higher quality board from Eazyro.com. Our skateboards are designed and constructed by industry experts, considering the safety and ease of learning and riding for kids. They last longer than a cheap skateboard and make your child’s skating experience more enjoyable.
The right size skateboard for kids
Make sure your child can stand comfortably on the board’s deck. They shouldn’t have to stretch their legs too far apart to reach the ends. And they shouldn’t find it too difficult to carry around when they are not riding.
A classic adult-sized double-kick skateboard is about 28 to 33 inches (71 to 84 cm) long and about 7 to 8 inches (18 to 20 cm) wide. This is a manageable size for most kids 8+ years old. For your younger kids keen to start skating, a smaller model is more suitable until they’re bigger.
The age children start skateboarding – kids’ skates for all ages
There is some range for the youngest kid skaters. Generally, kids over age 5 can start skateboarding. Younger than that, and they seldom have the coordination necessary to develop the skills. If a child is too young and they try to skate, they may have even more falls. But also, they may end up frustrated and end up dropping the whole idea. It’s better to hold off your tike a while to make sure they are ready. And, of course, keep younger kids home as they learn. The skatepark is for later.
Older kids can concentrate better and can gauge potential hazards. For skaters between 6 and 10, make sure you supervise them when they are on their board. And remind them to always wear the proper safety gear.
Essential safety gear for kids
Perhaps the most important piece of advice when looking to buy a skateboard – remember the safety gear! Skaters are tough and take falls and knocks well. Still, the proper safety gear protects your kids from potentially serious injuries.
Helmets are the most critical safety accessory. Add knee and elbow pads and wrist guards, too. Cheap accessories don’t provide adequate protection, so get the good stuff here at Eazyro.com. Your kid is worth it! Also, make sure that your kid has a sturdy pair of flat-soled, closed-toe shoes for foot protection. They should never skate barefoot or in sandals!
Kids’ skate styles
Classic skateboards are built to do tricks and for speed. They have recognisable up-turned sides on each end (kick tails), so riders can kick and flip the board around. A traditional double-kick board may come to mind first, but there are other styles of kids’ skates.
Longboards
Longboards (imagine this!) are longer than a regular skateboard. Recommended for adult beginners because they are easier to ride. They are so much longer (30 to 50+ inches 76 to 130 cm), they are too long for kids. There are some shorter longboards, often called “cruisers,” which might be more manageable for learning.
Penny boards
Penny boards are smaller and made in bright colours that appeal to kids. Ideal for younger kids with shorter stances, penny boards are very popular with parents and kids.
The perfect board gives your child stability and confidence while learning, making it more likely they stick with it. Check out all the options here at Eazyro.com, and remember to pick up that safety gear!
